Eligibility

Eligibility to Enter

  • Any person can enter the DonateLife Fun Run 
  • To register as a participant (and receive a registration pack) you must be a current Transplant Australia Member – its free.
  • To compete in the sporting competition you must have paid the 2026 – 2028 State Activity Participation Levy within your membership
  • International participants are not required to be a Transplant Australia member, but they must be a current member of their home country national transplant federation.

Registration Categories

  • Transplant Recipient – defined as an individual (based on their age as at 26 September 2026) who has received an organ or tissue donation  
  • Living Donor – defined as an individual (based on their age as at 26 September 2026) who has donated an organ or tissue.  
  • Supporter – defined as an individual (based on their age as at 26 September 2026) who is a family member or friend of a transplant recipient or Living Donor.   
  • Donor Family – defined as an individual (based on their age as at 26 September 2026) who is a family member or friend of a deceased donor.  
  • Health Professionals – defined as an individual (based on their age as at 26 September 2026) who works in the medical and allied health fields supporting transplantation pre and post care.  
  • General Public Fun Runner – defined as an individual (based on their age as at 26 September 2026) who wishes to enter the DonateLife Fun Run but does not fit into any of the above transplant/donor related categories and will not be participating in any other part of the 2026 Australian Transplant Games.  
  • Volunteer Only – defined as an individual who is supporting the event but not participating in any sporting competitions. Volunteers do not receive the Games registration pack, but will receive volunteering benefits for/when scheduled into a role.   
  • Spectator Only – defined as an individual who is supporting the event but not participating in any sporting competitions, including in any special events or receives registration packs. An individual may register as a spectator to access additional ticketed events or be included in the Australian Transplant Games Newsletter list.  

(note any of the entry categories can also volunteer their time)

While participants register as individuals, the Australian Transplant Games is also a team-based competition, with athletes representing state and international teams.

All participants are expected to adhere to Transplant Australia’s Sports Integrity policy, Code of Conduct, and Social Media Policy

Eligibility Criteria

The following are eligible to compete in the Warriors category: 

  • Solid organ recipients including liver, heart, lung, kidney, pancreas (including islets), small and large intestine.  
  • Tissue recipients including corneal, bone marrow, stem cell, heart valve (human origin), bone graft (human origin), tendon and cartilage. 
  • Those awaiting transplantation of the above organs or tissues 
  • Autologous recipients (on a trial basis for 2026 only)
  • Those with cystic fibrosis
  • Dialysis patients 
  • Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome patients 
  • Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome patients

Opening the Australian Transplant Games for organ and tissue recipients has been agreed to on the following basis: 

  • Qualification – participants having undergone invasive treatment of a non-cosmetic nature requiring organs and/or tissues (excluding blood) donated by another person. 
  • Competing Warriors (recipients) must have been transplanted for at least 1 year, with stable graft function, be medically fit and have trained for the events in which they have entered. If a potential competitor has been transplanted for at least 6 months, with stable graft function, has been training, and has permission from their own doctor, their entry may be considered by the Games Medical Committee. 
  • All Competing Warriors (recipients) must obtain and submit medical clearance from their treating specialist prior to arrival at the Games.  

Please note this eligibility status is different from the World Transplant Games criteria which only allow: 

  • Solid organ recipients 
  • Bone marrow and stem cell recipients 

The Games offers a range of sports catering for all abilities and welcomes the participation in selected events for all our Champions: 

  • Donor Families: families of deceased organ and tissue donors 
  • Living organ and tissue (bone marrow) donors 
  • Carers of organ and tissue transplant recipients 
  • Health professionals 
  • Family & Friends 
  • Supporters of our cause.

  • The above table includes a breakdown of all age categories for recipients, supporters, teams and international. Please refer to individual sports pages for a comprehensive guide to event options as not all events are available across all age or supporter categories.
  • Individual events may also be further divided by gender categories being Male and Female. Entrants may self-select their gender as per their self-identification into one of the 2 divisions offered at the time of registration.  
  • Pending entry numbers, some registration categories and divisions will be facilitated together within one competition but will receive results and placings as per their category and division per sport event. 
  • Team events are open to participants 15+ years of age  
  • Doubles and Team events may be a mix of any gender combinations.  
  • Team Lists must have a minimum of 1 person of each gender actively participating at any one time on the court/field. 
  • Team Lists may include Warriors (transplant recipients) and Champions (supporters), with a maximum of two Champions actively participating at any one time on the court/field.   
  • Age is calculated as at 26th September 2026 (day 1 of the event).

Within each sport, participants will be required to make a choice as to the events/ divisions they would like to participate in based on what their registration category and age group make them eligible for as per the below table;

Note: Where an event is not offered for the respective age group, an application may be made to Transplant Australia for consideration to compete in an older age group under special circumstances.
