Join the Team: Volunteer at the 2026 Australian Transplant Games!

Be part of Australia’s largest celebration of the gift of life. The Australian Transplant Games are a week-long multi-sport event bringing together transplant recipients, donor families, living donors, and the medical community.

A major national event like this simply isn’t possible without a passionate team. We are looking for volunteers with a wide variety of skills to help bring these Games to life for our athletes, families, and spectators, while gaining incredible experience on a national stage.

Volunteer roles include:

17 Roles available. 1 Sport Coordinator per sport responsible for;  

  • Pick up sports information, medals etc. morning of competition   
  • On-site set-up assistance  
  • On-site questions and participant support  
  • Facilitation of medal ceremonies 
  • Delivery of post-competition report

These roles require being on-site and actively moving around the sport venue for the full length of competition.  

Sport Coordinators may not participate in the sport they are coordinating.  

2-3 Roles available, based in Games Hub office responsible for;  

  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of all competition results.
  • Produce daily and final results summaries, medal tallies, awards calculations and official records.
  • Tracking of key event stats and competition data insights.
  • Work closely with communications and presentation teams to publish results. 
  • Identify and report system issues and problem solve with the delivery team.

This role requires a high level of technology capacity including experience working with excel, goggle docs and results systems including Meet Manager etc. 

Preference is given to an applicant who can fulfil this role consistently each day of the event where possible.

6 Roles available based onsite per applicable sport responsible for ;  

  • Organising the medals in preparation for ceremonies. 
  • Set up and pack down ceremony area.   
  • Supporting conduct of the official medal presentations. 

This role requires a high level of organisation and communication.  

Coordinators may not participate in the sport they are coordinating. 

14 Roles available based onsite per applicable sport responsible for;  

  • Making sport and event announcements, sponsor reads and providing entertainment throughout the day.   

This role requires a high level of communication, pronunciation, and organisation.  

Coordinators may not participate in the sport they are coordinating.

4 roles available per shift, working as a pair, responsible for;

  • Organisation and preparation of supplied signage and bump-in materials. 
  • Daily signage drop off & site set up and pack down.  
  • Counting, sorting, packing and coordination of materials return post event and from storage site. 
  • Drop-offs of waste materials to charities/recycling/waste etc.

Drivers license required. These roles require driving provided ute, physical and manual labor to pick up, assess weather conditions and forecasts, move and pack down various signage items include pull-up and tear-drop banners, media walls, A-frames, marquees and fence panelling.  

This role requires initiative to assess weather conditions to ensure safe securement of signs for public safety, while also following pre-determined signage plans.  

5 roles available per shift, based at each ATG26 Shuttle Stop, responsible for;  

  • Checking tickets.  
  • Assisting orderly waiting/boarding.  
  • Answering participant questions.

This role requires staying in touch with the Transport Coordinator via mobile and is outdoors based. 

2 roles available per shift, based out of the ATG Games Hub for on-call driving needs including;  

  • Venue volunteer drop-offs and pick ups daily (driving a mini-van).
  • VIP movements (driving a small car).

Minimum age 25 with a full valid driver’s license and safe driving record required.  

VIP Driver role is on-demand, on stand-by at the ATG Games Hub.   

Vehicles and fuel are provided.  

Up to 4 roles available per shift, based out of the ATG Games Hub and special event venues responsible for;  

  • Set up and theming/decorating of special event venues (i.e. opening ceremony and gala dinner).   
  • Assisting with presentations and entertainers.
  • Supporting the ATG Special Events Manager as required.  

Roles involve lifting boxes, styling tables, following run sheets, high level of organisation and ability to follow instruction.  

Students studying event management seeking experience would be well suited to these roles .

Up to 4 roles available per shift, based at special event venues responsible for;  

  • Wayfinding and entry directions.
  • Encouraging movement of groups from one area to another

Role involves friendly faces and helpful, clear directions.   

Up to 15 roles available per shift based on site across two events, responsible for;  

  • Position on-course to support participants staying on track, reporting issues etc.   
  • Assisting with road crossings where applicable.
  • Wayfinding as required.

Role involves sitting on course for the length of the event – outdoors in all conditions. BYO chair if required.   

Up to 4 roles available per shift based on site across two events, responsible for;  

  • Ensuing the venue is left in pristine condition. 
  • Redirecting any waste items.  
  • Collecting/collating any leftover signage, materials, equipment to be picked up.

Role involves walking and carrying potentially heavy/bulky/dirty items.

Multiple roles available moving around the event, responsible for;  

  • Filming and editing dynamic footage throughout the event -highlighting athletes, supporters, and key moments. 
  • Turning these into compelling reels that celebrate participation, resilience, and community.  
  • Event, sports and portrait photography
  • Working closely with the event team, the volunteer will help showcase the impact of transplant sport in real time, ensuring content is authentic, uplifting, and aligned with Transplant Australia’s brand and messaging.  

This role plays a key role in capturing the spirit and stories of the Australian Transplant Games by producing engaging short-form video content and photography for social media and future Games promotion. 

Ideal for a creative and proactive individual, this role suits someone with a passion for storytelling, a good eye for visual content, and confidence using cameras, mobile editing tools and/or social platforms.   

Up to 4 roles available per shift, based at the Check in venue, responsible for;  

  • Delivering a smooth and welcoming arrival experience at the Australian Transplant Games by greeting participants 
  • Supporting the registration and check-in process by verifying registrations, assisting with check-in, and distributing accreditation materials and event packs in an organised and friendly manner.  
  • Working closely with the event team, the volunteer will help ensure accurate record-keeping and efficient flow at the registration desk.
  • Creating a positive first impression for athletes, supporters, and guests. 

Ideal for someone who are organised, approachable, and calm under pressure, this role suits individuals who enjoy working with people and contributing to a well-run event experience. 

If you are also registering to participate in the Games; please do not volunteer for a role/shift that clashes or is held at the same day/time as events you would like to participate in.  

Behind-the-scenes Volunteer Roles

If you are looking for an opportunity to help out with the Games but think you will be too busy participating – don’t worry there are also volunteer roles you can assist with the planning stages!  

1 role available working virtually and in close coordination with the event team, responsible for;  

  • Assisting with facilitating and recording registration changes in the database,  
  • Updating participant details, and  
  • Managing manual adjustments within the registration system to ensure accurate and up-to-date records. 

This role plays an important behind-the-scenes role in preparing for the Australian Transplant Games by supporting participant registration processes in the lead-up to the event.  

Ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, reliable, and comfortable working with data systems, this role suits individuals who enjoy administrative tasks and contributing to a well-organised event team. 

Up to 17 roles available, working virtually and in close coordination with the event team, responsible for providing virtual general training guidance, tips, and encouragement in the lead-up to the event through;  

  • Developing simple, general accessible training plans for ATG website.   
  • Writing a blog article, sharing practical advice on building fitness and confidence.

Working remotely, this role will help foster a supportive and inclusive environment that empowers participants to safely return to movement.  

Ideal for someone with a background in sport, coaching, or fitness, this role suits individuals who are knowledgeable and encouraging. 

Unlimited roles available, seeking individuals who are open to speaking about their story and what the Games means to them and their recover/life post transplantation.  

Based in Tasmania, these roles will attend speaking and/or media interview opportunities at community groups and pre-event activities to encourage more local residents to sign up to participate in the Games.  

What’s required to be a volunteer?

There are some basic eligibility requirements you must meet to be a volunteer. Preference will be given to volunteers who are able to commit to at least three shifts.

All volunteers must be 16 years of age or over as at the time of the event, hold a valid Working with Children (WWCC) or State equivalent and agree to Transplant Australia’s policies and safeguarding requirements.

All volunteers receive:

  • ATG26 volunteer t-shirt and hat 
  • ATG26 registration pack and accreditation  
  • 1 x snack or meal per shift (meals applicable to shifts 6+hours)  
  • 1x free breakfast at the Volunteer Thank You BBQ function  

Training Required

Volunteers will be sent an information handbook with event details and be required to attend the mandatory event briefings held online in the fortnight prior to the event.

We will have over 100 volunteers join the team to help deliver the Australian Transplant Games in 2026!

Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older at the time of the Games.

We are looking for people who are friendly and passionate, with a positive attitude, and who are great team players. Most importantly, volunteers must be committed to helping make a difference in the lives of our athletes. Additionally, we require that volunteers are: 

  • are available for the duration of the games
  • preference will be given to volunteers who can commit to a minimum of two shifts
  • have valid and acceptable photo identification documents to apply to be a Games 2026 Volunteer.

No! While past event or Games experience can certainly be valuable, volunteers are not required to have past volunteering experience to work on the Games.

Absolutely! Provisions will be made to ensure people with accessibility needs or other adjustments are given every opportunity to volunteer at the event in the best and safest way.  We are committed to providing equal opportunity for everyone. 

Workplace Health & Safety is a key priority for everyone involved in the Games.

Help protect yourself from COVID-19:

  • Stay home or at your accommodation if you are sick.
  • Get tested if you have any COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Stay 1.5 metres away from other people (two big steps).
  • Wash your hands often using soap and water or hand sanitiser.
  • Sneeze or cough into your arm or a tissue. Put the tissue in the bin.
  • Wear a face mask when you are not able to socially distance or whenever mandatory face masks are required.
  • Stayup to date with your vaccinations.

No, volunteers will not be paid. We are extremely grateful for the support provided by all of our volunteers. 

Yes, our insurance covers all volunteers who are Australian citizens or permanent residents.

Accommodation or travel won’t be provided for Volunteers.

Shifts will be from 3 – 9 hours with some shifts being slightly shorter, or longer, due to competition schedules.

It is important for us to ensure the health, safety and well-being of our volunteers.

Breaks will be arranged based on the length of your shift, but you should speak to your supervisor if you are fatigued or need a break.

Some roles will be required to stand and/or walk for a large part of their shift. If you have any accessibility or mobility requirements, please advise in your registration. 

More information will be provided during training – if you have any questions or concerns, please discuss them with your supervisor or the workforce team. 

It is important for us to ensure the health, safety and well-being of our volunteers. 

Breaks will be arranged based on the length of your shift, but you should speak to your supervisor if you are fatigued or need a break.

Depending on the length of your shift, a meal and beverages /refreshments may be provided.

We’ll do our best to deliver diverse menu choices that address the standard dietary requirements options such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten and dairy free. If we cannot accommodate a specific dietary requirement due to operational reasons, you may need to provide your own meals.

Being amongst the action is one of the best parts of volunteering at a major event! 

Volunteers must be focused on their duties first and foremost, as well as consider the safety of others and themselves. You are welcome to watch the competition when it does not interfere with your tasks.
