Pickleball at the Australian Transplant Games

Have you ever tried pickleball? Well now is your chance.

Together with Pickleball ACT, Transplant Australia is excited to announce that there will be an exhibition match and an opportunity for a mini tournament being held at the AIS at the Australian Transplant Games. This event will be open to any Transplant Australia member or registered attendee of the Australian Transplant Games.

Pickleball is a cross between tennis, badminton and table tennis. It is played indoors or outdoors on a badminton size court, with a modified tennis net. The growth of Pickleball in Australia has been exponential, with 11,000 financial members of Pickleball Australia a rise of 4,000 in 2023, 500 are from the ACT alone!  In 2023, 6,185 Pickleball players across Australia participated in a Pickleball Tournament and that is set to grow to past 10,000 in 2024.

Pickleball is about community. People who play Pickleball come from all walks of life, regardless of background, people who play Pickleball love the sport because it is social, inclusive and great exercise.

Pickleball provides an environment where everyone is equal, and it is one of the only tournament sports to offer hybrid events, pairing players with a disability with able bodied players.

We are excited to showcase this fast growing sport and hope that due to their inclusive attitude we will be able to add this sport as a multi class pathway for our community.
